ORTHO 1004 EVO is the 4-axis milling machine we use today as our benchmark for orthopedics. Rather than a list of features, here is what actually changes in a workshop’s day.
A body jacket in 15-20 minutes
From the polyurethane block to a positive ready for thermoforming it takes 15-20 minutes on average for a body jacket and 10-15 minutes for an AFO, depending on size and on the finish you choose. Those are minutes the technician does not spend in front of the machine: they prepare the next piece or see a patient.
That is the real difference from shaping plaster by hand, where the technician’s time and the machining time are the same thing.
The fourth axis, and what goes on it
With the fourth axis the piece is machined all around without being repositioned: no second setup, no alignment errors between one face and the next. Each type of device has its own fixture: OrthoBAR for body jackets, OrthoSUP for AFOs, KAFOs and sockets, OrthoFORM for shoe lasts, OrthoSEAT for seating systems, OrthoFOOTBED for insoles, OrthoEST-P and OrthoEST-G for cosmetic covers.
The maximum block is Ø 650 × 1100 mm, so there is room for long corsets and leg-foot orthoses as well.
Less maintenance, even in harsh environments
The working axes have an automatic lubrication unit, and an integrated cleaning system extends maintenance intervals even where the environment is dusty. The collection tray is standard; the extraction system, to work without dust around, is available as an option.
Programming without a programmer
You need CAD software to model the patient’s shape and export STL files. From there the graphic interface is designed for people who do not program for a living, and OrthoCAM, OrthoLIB and the simplified procedure are available as options to set up a job in a few steps.
The machine is Industry 4.0 ready: production data can be collected and used, instead of staying inside the control unit.
How much space and power it needs
It takes about 84 × 210 cm of floor space, 2 metres in height, and weighs 700 kg with the base. Being less than 85 cm wide it goes through doorways, which in a workshop that is already furnished is not a detail. It runs on 380 V, or 220 V as an option, with 6 kW installed (3 kW on request, with the 1 kW spindle).
Seeing it work
The calculator estimates in three minutes how much you save at your volumes and sends you an indicative price. If you want to see the machine running, it is in our demo area in Cascina: bring us a file, or we connect by video call and show you a piece like yours.
